One Fine Evening

He woke up even before the sun rose in the eastern sky. The whispering calls of his friends coming through the window did not let him sleep anymore. Slowly and as silently as possible he slipped out from the bed, ensuring not to wake up his parents beside him. Silently unlocking the wooden door he signalled his friends to stop calling him in a hushed tone. He quickly put on his Jersey and spikes and was about to unlock the main door and slip outside when he heard his mother warning him to tighten his shoelaces, for she knew that he always made some mistake while wearing shoes in a hurry.

Those Playgrounds

The chirping of birds, the rustling of leaves and the dew bathed grasses made the perfect environment for them as he and his friends kept playing football. The thud of ball on the walls around the field worked as the morning alarm for the nearby houses. Gradually the sun showed her golden rays and the few friends sat together, panting and laughing at the game they just played as they shared their sweaty smells.

A fresh Start

He was worried how his mother would react seeing the bruises on his knees and the grasses and specks of dust all over him, as he fell thrice in the ground while playing. Before his mother could see him, his father silently showed him a bucket of water kept outside the gate to take a bath from before entering the house.

The day started with him taking milk sipped biscuits while his parents helped them with hot cups of tea. It's 7:30 a.m. and it's time for his father to take shower and time for him to open his books. Then eventually it turned to 8:00 a.m. and its time for his father to take the breakfast. He always claimed a bite from his father's plate even before he took one himself. The clock hand passed on to 9:00 a.m. and now it's his turn to try hard to not to be late and yet be late at the end.

Some Lost Lights

The school journey started with him meeting his four oldest buddies-Supriyo, Sagar, Sudipta and Kaushik and a game of SPD Power rangers. Supriyo used to play the role of red Ranger, Sudipta the Omega Ranger, Sagar the Blue Ranger and him personally liked to be the Green Ranger, for green was his favourite colour. Oindrilla used to be the Yellow Ranger and at times Gracy being the Pink Ranger. The morning classes started one by one and particularly in the English classs, he and Supriyo got punishment for beating benches as a music supplement to enhance the rhythm of the poem G.K. ma'am was narrating in the class. For this behaviour, he was kept locked in the teacher's room bathroom after the school by A.P. ma'am and S.P. ma'am.

Back home his mother fed him a plate full of rice and then he was seen no more in the house or anywhere around. Playing hide and seek was his only job then.

A Moment of Happiness

The evening always witnessed drowsy eyes, the intense pressure of studying while mother sitting beside him and hasty anticipation for his father coming back home from work. The entry of his father in the house at around 7:30 p.m. in the evening was equivalent to the unbound freedom from mother's angry supervision. Watching cartoons, playing Trump cards and Ludo were true happiness to him during the time.

The Sleeping Kid

Just after completing the dinner, the only thing that kept him busy was to plan a way to convince his mother that she would allow him to go out and play in the field the following morning. From talking about the incidents of the day to talk about almost any silly matter with his father while lying on the bed was like his duty before sleeping every night. With all these his voice slowly turned lower and lower and eyes kept filling with drowsiness and at one time, he finally shut his eyes down and slept..... and so did his childhood.

A Red Evening

The ambience in the room, the hot cup of coffee and the red sky outside will witness a beautiful evening...an evening when we shall narrate our stories sitting on our easy chairs and tell the juniors how our golden days looked like.
